Boys Varsity Competition in Texas

Private School

Competition

Many are surprised to learn that boys' volleyball has been a high school sport in Texas since the mid-1980's.  The Southwest Prepatory Conference (not UIL) governs play among a handful of private schools in Texas and Oklahoma.

SPC boys volleyball plays their season in the fall and includes the following schools:

  • Bellaire Episcopal

  • Dallas Greenhill

  • Dallas St. Marks

  • Ft. Worth Country Day

  • Ft. Worth Trinity Valley

  • Houston Kinkaid

  • Houston St. Johns

  • San Antonio St. Mary's Hall

  • Oklahoma City Casady

New Public/Private

High School League

As other sports have discovered, including lacrosse and ice hockey, getting new varsity sports officially adopted through the UIL is a very difficult task. Private organizations have stepped-in for other sports to oversee interscholastic competition in non-UIL sports and provide Texas athletes with the opportunities UIL is not (yet) ready to support.
